Having recently seen how shockingly wafer thin the news magazines have become, I think it might be a more direct indicator of Time's, um, Life left on the newsstands. Disregarding the fact that the question "How old are you, ten?" comes to my mind when I read a good portion of Twitter gushing, surely "Buy a copy!" smacks of desperation bordering on the sweaty.

How long before we see a riff on National Lampoon's 1973 "If you don't buy this magazine, we'll shoot this dog" cover? I can see it now: "If you don't buy this magazine, there will be a lot more than just 600 layoffs" with a long string of frowny smileys.
