Ghost Orchid Blooms

For the third consecutive year a Ghost Orchid (above) is blooming at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples, Florida.

This is the orchid made famous in Susan Orlean's wonderful book, "The Orchid Thief, (the movie version, "Adaptation," is excellent as well).

The Ghost Orchid "... has no leaves and appears to float in mid-air when blooming, " noted the Wall Street Journal.

A new novel, Ghost Orchid, by D. K. Christi will be released soon about the lies, loves and redemption of a family for whom this ghost orchid in Corkscrew Swamp provided a mystery that demanded resolution. D. K. Christi was featured in the Naples Daily News in 2008 for her own obsession with the Ghost Orchid, visiting it nearly every day of its three-month of blooms.
