My new favorite keyboard wrist rest

For years it's been the 3M Executive gel-filled iteration pictured below.

It works fine for as long as it works but therein lies the rub — literally.

If you spend the majority of your waking life atop at treadmill going 1.5 mph while producing bookofjoe — "wait a minute, joe, you're the only one who does that, you fool"... never mind — then you will undoubtedly find a wrist rest is indispensable to produce sufficient lower arm and hand comfort to enable you to proceed as such every day of your life.

From time to time I like to lean with my right elbow on the wrist rest while I watch something on TV or read something or daydream or watch Gray Cat out doing whatever it is she does all day.

These little leaning interludes take their toll on the wrist rest, such that after about two weeks they burst along a seam, the sticky gel inside extruding against the base of the keyboard and generally looking and feeling yucky.

I then proceed with the usual ritual of minding the gap, first with Scotch Tape since I have it right next to me and then with strapping tape, finally ordering a new wrist rest when it all gets too gross and disgusting and dirty for further repair/modification.

About a month ago I saw something new at Amazon when I went to order a new one, namely the iteration pictured up top.

Besides the much more appealing flower power motif, it was about half the price ($14 v $24) of my less-than-staunch elbow supporter of many years.

So I bought one to try it out.

I am delighted to report that it works just as well for elbow support and wrist comfort as the (now former) incumbent and hasn't shown any sign of bursting whatsover.

And the clear plastic cover, which I thought might be inferior to the soft synthetic fabric on the higher-priced version, is equally comfortable.

So let me now state, without further ado, that the 3M Gel Wrist Rest for Keyboard (Flower Power Iteration) is the Official Gel Wrist Rest of bookofjoe.

Now, don't you feel better?

I know I do.
