Lady Gaga — before she got big
19-year-old Stefani Germanotta, an alumna of the Convent of the Sacred Heart prep school in Manhattan, phoned Bitter End booker Kenny Gorka pretending to be a huge fan of Germanotta's eponymous band, insisting he had to at least audition the group.
He brought her in to have a listen, then hired her to perform on January 20, 2006 (above) and the rest of the story, well, you probably know it by now.

It's always interesting to see the early in the career videos. I'm not a fan, much, so what the hell do I know.
However, I got into a discussion just recently, with a friend, about artistry in performance. Well, it went on and on, but I got to thinking about how much I enjoy the sheer exuberance of performing, just the plain old joy, that performers will occasionally let loose with. I thought about this example and lo & behold, I found it - Midori Ito at the '88 Olympics:

At 4:06 when she pumps her fist in the air, just knocks me out. And I found this, full of the fun of singing:

Sometimes the joy IS the artistry, I think.
