Mt. Chipotle suddenly erupts in parking lot of Barracks Road Shopping Center in Charlottesville, Virginia

11

You could look it up.

22

Or just look at the picture up top taken on December 24, 2009, the first documented evidence of the unexpected appearance of a natural wonder right here in my Podunk town.

33

Who says life isn't exciting?

44

Long story short, from Ted Strong's front page story in yesterday's Charlottesville Daily Progress:

55

The mountain of dirty snow, which initially appeared late last year after the winter's first big snowstorm, stood this past Friday at an all-time record height of 39.758 feet.

66

The photos appearing here are just a small sampling of those to be found on the Mount Chipotle National Research Observatory website, which has all you could ever want to know about this remarkable transient wonder of the world and the project to characterize it and preserve its memory for eternity.

77

If you have any interest in ascending it, though, you'd better make your way here pretty soon 'cause it's sunny and above freezing today and the landmark is shrinking as you read these words.

I wonder if it's been mapped yet.

NRO?

Street View?

Anyone?
