The great comedian, unknown to anyone under 30, was sui generis.

Sure glad we don't have to see everyone smoking anymore!

From IMDB:
"The Galapagos tortoise "Lonesome George" (the rarest tortoise on earth) was named after this actor."

This was the funniest line "Lonesome" George Gobel ever delivered.
Obviously, everybody was two sheets to the wind. The 90 minute Tonight Show of my youth is sorely missed.

I think you might had better make that "...unknown to anyone under 40..." but I agree! And I love looking back at those old comedians - like the huge, talented cast of "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World." I don't know if any current comedian who can pull off the sharp snarky-ness of Phil Silvers.
