Thoughts — iPhone app features audio text messaging

Wrote Sam Grobart in a New York Times story , "If you ever call someone with the hope they don't pick up and that you get their voicemail instead, Thoughts, an iPhone app from Jawbone, is for you."

Let me offer a suggestion to those of you who do such things: if the call is business-related, the surefire way to make that happen is to call after business hours.

That way you can also get also get credit for returning the call the same day.

The ball's now in their court, where you want it.

More from Grobart's piece: "Thoughts is something like audio text messages, if that were not contradictory. A user can record a message ('I’m on the 6:55 p.m. bus. See you soon.') and send that message to anyone in an iPhone’s address book. The recipient does not need the app to hear the message, since Thoughts can send a link to the audio file to any e-mail or text address."

And: "If you are unable to listen to a voice message (because you are at your weekly Antisocial Anonymous meeting, say), Thoughts will convert a message into text. The transcription is quite accurate, and you get 10 free transcriptions when you download the app."

Free, the way we like it.

Apparently - according to the reviews - it's a piece of crap. Maybe you should try Dragon Dictation instead. It's also Free! and works quite well.
