Helpful Hints from joeeze: Flat hair iron as ribbon smoother

Blue-ribbon_300

From Real Simple: "Use a flat hair iron to get the kinks out of wrinkled wrapping ribbons that were tied around presents, then recycle the bows without telltale creases from the previous use(s)."

Survival Cord Belt

Bbkbrown1-1

Wear your potentially lifesaving design in plain sight.

"Should an emergency survival situation arise, you now have over 100 feet of 550 parachute/survival cord that can save your life in countless different survival scenarios."

$125.

[via my Los Angeles correspondent who wrote, "Give 'em enough rope.... NO, I'm not buying one. I have enough parachute cord, thanks all the same. Newsspeak: '7 strand 550 parachute/survival cord hand-tied into a patent-pending 1-3/8"-wide crazy strong belt.' Hand-tied = crochet. Nice to see that all of those guys who used to macrame plant hangers have a new job."]

Power Reel

DSC_9458_770

Yet another creation from the hands and mind of Craighton Berman who wrote, "Power Reel is a cellphone charger with an overstated sense of utility. Our personal electronics constantly require charging, yet most outlets live out-of-reach at ankle level. Power Reel pulls the outlet up the wall both visually and functionally. Cords are routed through the pulley, bringing power within reach. Once devices are attached, they gently dangle from the end of the reel while receiving their charge."

Power_reel_deconstructed_770

"As absurd of an object as Power Reel may be, when placed behind a bedside table, its true utility is revealed."

Created for "Lift Hold Roll" — an exhibition of objects that employ the use of industrial pulleys, casters, & clamps — curated by The Future Perfect for NYC Design Week 2010.
