"Star Trek" theme song played on a musical saw

The Saw Lady, musician/street performer Natalia Paruz, plays the original "Star Trek" theme song on the musical saw.

Turns out she also played the musical saw during perhaps the most mesmerizing scene in the film "Another Earth."

How do I know this?

Because after I tweeted yesterday about watching the movie,

she tweeted me back and told me so.

You could look (not up but) below:

Thanks for asking me to chime in, Kay!
I think the thing I like very best about the saw vid is that she looks like she's having such a great time.
(I'd love to try playing a saw, but I don't think my ancient rusted-out Disston crosscut & hair-sprung Sears violin bow would get the purest tone, somehow. Wake the dead, maybe.)

I hunted around and found a little bit of the tune from the scene Joe referred to, and though I haven't seen the film, it does sound amazing...I think now I'll have to see it. It's hard not to compare the sound to that of the theremin, but in that little bit I heard, the saw seems the perfect fit and possibly the theremin might sound overly cold & electronic (well, duh). (Star Trek, though - I still prefer it with a warbly soprano.)
