Gibraltar Airport, where planes and cars meet daily

From slightlywarped.com:

"Gibraltar is the only major airport where the runway actually intersects with a major highway. When a plane has to take off or land, car traffic is shut down."

Anyone reading this ever flown into or out of Gibralter Airport? Or driven across it?

If so, tell us about it.

I've been there a few times and also have photographs of myself lying in the middle of it. A cool place, but the apes at the top of the rock are the highlight.

We were there three weeks ago and walked across the runway. While up on Gibraltar you can actually look way, way down on the planes landing and taking off...pretty surreal.

It has been that way for some time now. I drove across it several times in Jan 1960! It was about the same as not, just less traffic.

I used to think Denver's Stapelton Airport was odd where a highway underpass existed beneath two runways...
