Bird flies into Bluegrass concert

Wrote reader Kay, who sent me the link last evening, "Fast-forward to about 1:30 in the clip."

[via Salty Sea Dog, which captioned its post "Bird Flies on Stage at Doyle Lawson Bluegrass Festival — Magic Happens @1:30"]

I won't argue.

bookofjoe is a Kickstarter project

Screen Shot 2012-04-16 at 9.31.13 PM

Who knew?

Not me until yesterday when reader Michael Kravec sent me this link.

I like it when people grab the bull by the horns and run with it....

Wait a sec... that's not right, is it?

Never mind.

Sue the Kickstarter people trying to jumpstart their short film project?

You gotta be kidding — it took me about 3 seconds to become a backer.

Any publicity is good publicity as long as they spell your name right.

With my worldwide Crack Correspondent Team®™© supplemented by myriad stringers with their eyes, ears, and noses open to the strangeness and wonders of our planet, it's a no-brainer to keep boj fresh and tasty.

It better be a no-brainer....

It's Emancipation Day — Or, why federal income taxes aren't due until today

OK, April 15 was a Sunday so obviously tax day wouldn't be then but why weren't they due yesterday?

Made no sense to me until I learned that yesterday was a holiday — Emancipation Day — observed only in Washington, D.C., where on April 16, 1862, slaves were emancipated from bondage in the District of Columbia.

Wrote Mark Trumbull on CSMonitor.com, "The district's celebration doesn't make it a federal holiday, but the Internal Revenue Service says that 'according to federal law, District of Columbia holidays impact tax deadlines in the same way federal holidays do.'"

So there you have it.

Rorschach lives: Is that a bear attack or we having a picnic?

The ad pictured above occupied 30% of page 15 of the front section of yesterday's Wall Street Journal.

Am I the only person who looked at it and saw a reddish-brown bear attacking a smiling woman?

I am?

Hard to believe.

Dr. Rorschach, call your office: your color prints have arrived.

Can your Etch A Sketch do that?

It can?
