Post-Sandy in the New Third World: Bernardsville, New Jersey
bookofjoe's intrepid correspondent, Paul Biba, embedded in his cold, dark, waterless, and powerless house in Bernardsville — located in Somerset County, among the top ten wealthiest counties in the U.S. — continues his compelling daily video reporting with yet another boj World Exclusive Premiere.
The prospects don't look good for the return of normalcy any time soon: it looks like it could be another week or even two till Paul's electricity, Internet and TV (Verizon FiOS, the fiberoptic line ripped to shreds and lying exposed to the elements in the street outside his home) and water (electrically-powered well) will be functional.
Amazing.
Good reason to move to Gotham, what?
Paul once mentioned to me that Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" was one of his favorite books: I don't think he ever dreamed at the time that one day soon he would be living in conditions approximating that fictional landscape.

Third world? Oh, please. Look at what you wrote about "wealthiest suburbs." Rolling green hills in the far background, ever so nice landscaping in the near background.
Twenty miles away, there were people in New Brunswick and Sayreville from the real third world, escaping their apartments as the Raritan River rose.
Sorry, hard for me to drum up any sympathy.

Thanks for posting this! I was born and raised in Bernardsville. I almost did a double take when I saw the town's name here!
