Dave Clark Five Bassist Rick Huxley is dead at 72

What is it all of a sudden with the icons of my youth crashing and burning all over the place?

Just last week it was "Good Vibrations" electro-theremin player Paul Tanner and now today's New York Times obituary section brings news of the demise this past Monday of a founding member of the one of my favorite bands back before you were born, when I was in high school.

Oh! The songs!

"Bits and Pieces,""Glad All Over," "Catch Us If You Can"....

FunFact: We had an alternate lyric for "Glad All Over" that involved a girl named Gladys but I won't bore you with my reminiscences.

Heh.

All You Need Is Love

1360684413

Happy St. Valentine's Day.

Above, the new Valentine's cover of Oman's Thursday Magazine, the weekend supplement of the daily Times of Oman newspaper.

Creative director Adonis Durado explained: "In Middle Eastern countries like Oman, the weekend holidays fall on Thursday and Friday — not Saturday and Sunday. The magazine is published on Thursday, hence its name. The content of general interest topics is ideal for a weekend read."

India rising: 0.9% — with a bullet

Screen Shot 2013-02-13 at 8.25.48 AM

Never mind the bullet, that's nicely making [its] way toward me as I type.

Yours is en route too, kemo sabe, don't think it's just a special case of me feeling gloomy: we've all got our magic bullets, fired at the moment of quickening and now patiently wending their way through the thickets of time until someone finally pulls the plug.

Oh, I almost forgot: you really believe you're in control of your life, and that you have free will and all rather than being part of a really, really popular and — at least to us action figures — realistic simulation being enjoyed by the post-Singularity denizens of the late 21st century.

If that makes you feel better, by all means carry on.

But I digress.

From India comes a massive (relatively) proportion of my current readership: 0.9% = 9 in 1000 people currently on bookofjoe are physically in India.

That's huge, at least to me.

Welcome, Bangalore and Mumbai and Delhi, and Chennai and Kolkata and Ahmedabad and Hyderabad and all the rest of you, yeah Jaipur and Lucknow and Surat and Pune, I got you too.

I love you all and hope one day to physically visit your magical, impossible country.

My Mumbai-based Crack Research Team®™© correspondent tells me it's like nothing she's ever experienced — and trust me, this girl's been around.
