Gourmet Chef's Vegetable Knife

Wrote Florence Fabricant in last Wednesday's New York Times Dining section, "It may seem like nothing could improve an oldfangled eight-inch chef's knife. But Wüsthof has found a way. Its new, well-balanced Gourmet Chef's vegetable knife has a row of holes near the edge of the blade and, on one side, a thin ridge above them. These features are designed to reduce friction as you attack that cucumber or onion, so the slices fall off onto the cutting board instead of piling up as they stick to the knife. But it's strictly a right-handed utensil, and Norman Kornbleuth, an owner of Broadway Panhandler, which is introducing the knife, said that Wüsthof has no plans for a left-handed version."

Once again us southpaws end up with our noses pressed against the window, fogging up the glass.

Catholic Birdhouse — Mike Kelley

Now in the collection of the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art whose then-director Richard Armstrong — now director of the Guggenheim Museum in New York — purchased it from Kelley's California Institute of the Arts senior thesis show in 1978.

Kelley committed suicide on January 31, 2012 in his South Pasadena home by burning charcoal he ignited in a portable grill he had carried upstairs to a second-floor bathroom whose two ceiling vents he had covered with duct tape to make the room airtight.

According to Kelly Crow's gripping Wall Street Journal account, "As the grill's toxic carbon-monoxide fumes began to build, he tossed some pillows into the tub and climbed atop them to breathe and wait, a photograph of ex-girlfriend [Trulee Grace] Hall taped low on the wall beside him."

He was 57.

Ponzitracker: The Ponzi Scheme Authority

No less an authority on Ponzi schemes than the formidable Diana B. Henriques of the New York Times, author of "The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust, declared Ponzitracker fo shizzle.

Not in those words, mind you: she tweeted "My fave."
