Experts' Expert: Apollonia Poilâne's favorite websites

Chateau-richeux

From Kate Murphy's interview with Ms. Poilâne in today's New York Times: "Apollonia Poilâne is the chief executive of Poilâne, a celebrated artisanal bread baker in Paris that supplies the Élysée Palace as well as more than 2,500 of the city’s retailers and restaurants. She took over the family business in 2002 at age 18 when her parents died in a helicopter crash."

Asked for her favorite websites, she replied, "I enjoy checking out the Web site of the chef Olivier Roellinger. It's called Les Maisons de Bricourt and has gorgeous pictures [above] of the different places he has in Brittany."

"I also like the Web site of Axel Vervoordt, a Belgian antiques dealer. He has the most gorgeous selection of both antique and modern pieces [above and below]."

"My First Boat"

My-first-boat1

Bob Mankoff named this one of his all-time 11 favorite New Yorker cartoons, noting wryly "You can't go wrong with stupidity. When in doubt, make fun of an idiot." He relented: "But this is done in a lovely way. The guy who's doing this stuff is dumb, but the cartoon is clever."

Jack Ziegler's cartoon appeared in the July 11, 1988 issue.

Catme 13/Glass Effect 23 — Gray Cat prepares to take a nap — Google Glass POV

It was a quiet Saturday afternoon and Gray Cat opted for a nap in one of her many favorite napping venues: atop my belly as I lay on the couch and read.

She really seems to like the gentle, rythmic rise and fall of my stomach atop her soft blanket.

Knocks her out every time.

In the video, you'll see her preparing her bed by walking in place atop my bemused self for about a minute before settling in for the duration.

This is why Glass was invented.

Bliss.

Out For Blood Bracelet

Blood_bracelet_02

Enough with the FuelBand and its ilk, let's get serious.

Blood_bracelet

From Well Done Stuff: "Unmistakably morbid yet spellbindingly alluring, this realistic blood bracelet is terrifying yet unforgettable. Fashioned from solid brass, it's coated with thick, glossy enamel to give an authentic blood droplet finish."

Who knows? Maybe you could convince your punk teenager to wear one of these instead of getting pierced or tatted.

Worth a shot, anyhoo.
