Like a lot of folks, my Dad had one of these in the '70's... like a lot of folks, Dad didn't realize that you were supposed to soak the "newspaper logs" in water and let them dry thoroughly before tossing them in the fireplace. Apparently, the soak-dry cycle fuses the paper fibers together and makes them better to burn.
