Wearing Google Glass, I drive through snow-bound Charlottesville Sunday, January 24, 2016

It's Sunday, January 24, 2016, at about 1 p.m.

After spending about 40 minutes digging my car out from the 19 inches of snow surrounding it — and removing a dense four-foot-high snowbank left by a snowplow — I got in my car and went out on the road to check things out.

Long story short: the roads were terrible, full of packed snow and slush, the result of shoddy plowing.

Nevertheless, I proceeded for eight or so minutes. My simultaneous, spontaneous narration offers a lot more detail.

It's 2:45 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2016, and I've just finished a hard workout at the ACAC gym.

I put on Google Glass and recorded the nearly 15-minute-long, four-mile trip through the erratically snowplowed streets, narrating all the way into my driveway.

For what it's worth: I passed my driver's license vision test without glasses, so my license is unrestricted; having said that, as a rule I wear glasses to drive, as I'm mildly nearsighted and thus everything beyond 6-8 feet away looks sharper through my glasses.

But — having tried to use Google Glass while wearing my glasses, I learned the hard way that it's nearly impossible to frame the video from the device's position above where it ideally sits just above my right eye.

So I went [optical] commando.

I often mention BOTN (Beer Out The Nose) when something is outrageously funny.

Well, listening to Flautist suggestions for Joe's videos brought me to tears!

One of the MANY highlights was the music when Joe views the young sledder in the front and pans to the "Side View," a classic if timed right.

And Joe, I would be honored to have you as my designated driver, my monotone suggestion was completely in jest!

To the group, when you have the time, watch the videos with Maestro Flautist conducting!

I give it 5/5 — Brava!

Okay Peachy, I have no comment to make on Joe's narration, pro or con, but as you requested, here's a couple of soundtrack choices you might find entertaining (Bernard Herrmann first, Franz Waxman second) on the drive through Podunk central:

Re: "Joe's semi-monotone... narrative": Please consider the fact that I was simultaneously driving in very hazardous conditions AND trying to keep Google Glass in an optimal recording position as well as narrating — the surprising thing is that there's any narration at all AND that I didn't have an accident.

Oh, yeah, one more thing: as noted in the post, I dispensed with my glasses, which I otherwise always wear while driving.

Sheesh.

For a 19" snowfall, I think they did a great job with the streets.

Come on Flautist, give me a track to cover Joe's semi-monotone (but highly informative ;-) narrative.
