8-year-old Alicia Vikander (2016 Academy Award winner) wins 1997 contest by lip-syncing opera

Talent doesn't hide its light under a bushel: it shows up early.

Consider 11-year-old Taylor Swift's remarkable rendering of the national anthem before a Philadelphia 76ers game at The Spectrum circa 2000-2001.

But I digress.

From USA Today:

Greatness Doesn't Happen Overnight

If anyone knows that, it's Alicia Vikander, 27. The breakout actress juggled four features last year and earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Tom Hooper's "The Danish Girl." But Sunday night wasn't the first time that Vikander savored victory, as revealed by The Local. In a 1997 video [top] discovered by the Swedish outlet, an 8-year-old Vikander swept the competition on a televised Swedish talent show by lip-syncing an operatic opus in her mother tongue.

[Up top] is a clip from the performance (which you can stream in its entirety here).

Just prior to the flawless delivery, the host asked Vikander what she wanted to be when she grew up, to which the precocious pre-teen replied, "I'm going to be an actress."
