Sir Ridley Scott chats with IBM Watson

The speed with which Watson is improving is startling.

Maybe Ray Kurzweil's got it right, predicting the artificial intelligence singularity circa 2040.

But I digress.

The conversation up top, which appears to be happening in real time, is fascinating.

Now if only IBM would spend a few hundred million more dollars, cross the uncanny valley, and give Watson a speaking voice indistinguishable from that of a real person, I'd be pleased as punch.

I mean, come on, even the Google maps woman in my iPad is nearly human-sounding.

So I know it's doable.

Perhaps IBM's dragging its feet for now so as not to really scare us, a là HAL in "2001."

I can live with that.

But not for long.

Fair warning.
