Alan Kay's Reading List

From squeakland: "[This] list was prepared by Alan Kay for his students. We share it for those who want to learn more about some of the writing that influenced him and the creation of Etoys."

I've read 18 of the 103 titles; you?

We were stardust — CSN&Y's "Woodstock"

boj Nation never sleeps — more accurately, parts are always awake.

Witness the redoubtable Tam D out in the Bay Area who, while I was sleeping last night, dropped this comment in reference to Thursday's post featuring the Jefferson Airplane:

When I woke up this morning I immediately headed for YouTube to have a look and listen to Crosby Stills Nash & Young's performance of Joni Mitchell's classic song, "Woodstock" (top).

Boy, they sounded good!

FunFact: "It [Woodstock] was only their second gig and they were quite nervous. Stephen Stills remarked on stage, 'This is the second time we've ever played in front of people, man. We're scared shitless.'"

Thanks, Tam, for waking up the echoes!

Yes — I noticed the video is titled CROSBY, STILLS, NASH Woodstock 1971.

You know what? I'm so enchanted looking at the scenes of those days in the video up top (many people I knew at U.C.L.A. went but I couldn't because I was leaving for Japan the week after to begin my junior year abroad and I had a lot of stuff to do in a short time before flying to Tokyo) that I'm going to go with the flow and call off my Crack Research Team®© and tell them to take a chill pill and just flake out.

This just in (via a comment) from reader Nanci:

Joni was not at Woodstock and wrote the song while or after watching it on TV. It was on her 1970 album "Ladies of the Canyon." CSN&Y then covered it the same year on "Deja Vu."
