I learned this years ago in a restaurant I worked in. Only seems to work for Iceberg lettuce and it seems not to work as well with "store bought" lettuce as opposed to bulk commercial lettuce bought for restaurants. Has something to do with density. Either way it involves a hard rap directly onto the core. A twist helps as well.

Joe-- have you tried this one? I have twice. I guess I don't/can't slam hard enough....just like most of my cooking recipes....it doesn't work for me.
