"Warlight" — Michael Ondaatje

Just finished this wonderful novel, his latest, by the author of the superb "The English Patient."

That 1996 movie, starring Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes, won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

But I digress.

"Warlight" had me at its wonderful title, whose meaning is revealed about a quarter of the way through the book, and then kept me close for the first hundred pages or so (it's 285 pages long).

Then it suddenly exploded and became so good I couldn't put it down till I finished.

Read the beginning here.

Free, the way we like it.

As Faulkner wrote in "Go Down, Moses": "The past isn't dead. It isn't even past."

Cantilever Flatware

From the website:

Cantilever no-mess stainless steel flatware floats above the table, improving hygiene and reducing mess.

We rethought the angles of each piece to put a little distance between what touches food and what rests on the table.

Each utensil was designed to look beautiful, weighted to feel right, and tested to ensure it is pleasant to use.

Knife, fork, and spoon: $24.95.
