Oh, and the paper bags currently required for incinerating toilets could easily and extremely cheaply be made from crop by-product (coconut husks, pineapple leaves, chaff, etc, etc).

Look at the B1M on YouTube for the size of the world's biggest cities in 2030 and 2100.

Lagos will get up to over 80M people!

The video is on YouTube.

Those were suggested topics. Gates chose his own (although some of the above were covered).

Factory meat is probably the most important for the environment.

Managing sewage in the 3rd World is probably #2. Surprised they didn't talk about incinerating toilets. A couple of solar panels and 2KWH of batteries (currently $200, was $2,000 in 2010, will be $100 in 2025) would be enough for once-a-day incineration for one home. The batteries would last 10-15 years.

The toilets are currently only expensive because of low production quantities. In the tens of millions, the whole kit could get the cost to the $500 target.

All you get from the process is water vapour and a spoon of STERILE ash per "download". This ash can be used in farming.
