I'd been making my way through this book for a couple weeks, ten or so pages at a time, until yesterday, when I reached page 268 and read the phrase up top in the headline.

Everything changed at that moment.

The book became what Ezra Pound remarked a book should be: "A ball of lightning in the hand."


Cancel my appointments for the rest of the day — I settled in and invoked SlowRead®© and spent the next six or so hours immobile except for turning the pages until I reached the last (page 410).

New Mars Crater


Sometime between February 18, 2017 and March 20, 2019,


a space rock approximately five feet in diameter crashed into the surface of Mars,


creating the spectacular 50-foot-wide crater pictured above and below
