15th-century cathedral transformed into a modern bookstore

From Colossal:

For many, reading a good book can be a religious experience, but this bookstore in Zwolle, The Netherlands takes that idea to a whole new level.

Architects BK. Architecten were tasked with converting this 15th-century Dominican church into a modern bookstore with the addition of 700 square meters of shopping space.

There was one major catch: all the historical elements of the 547-year-old building — including stained glass windows, pipe organ, ceiling paintings, and expansive arches — had to remain intact.

BK. Architecten managed to add three levels of retail space to the side wings of the church in such a way that the additions can one day be removed in order to restore the church to its original design.

In addition, only three colors of building materials were used to mimic the existing palette of the cathedral's interior, to ensure that the bookstore would pay reverence to the original space.

Waanders In de Broeren opened in the summer of 2013.

You just have to look at the hanging hole from a different perspective.

"They Tell Me It's Summer" — The Fleetwoods (1962)

I'd never heard of nor heard this song by this great group until reader Joe Peach sent it my way.

He wrote:

I have listened to a LOT of oldies stations.

I once had a job where I listened to oldie and doo-wop music 12 hours a day!

No, I'm not an expert by any means, but I have only heard this gem once or twice.

YouTube comments:

I'm 68 and have been around since the beginning of rock 'n roll and this is one of the greatest songs ever. I've never heard it before!

Even though I grew up in the Fleetwoods home territory of Seattle in the 50s and 60s, I never ran across this incredibly beautiful song until recently. One of the best "B" sides EVER!

The Fleetwoods' "Come Softly To Me," their 1959 debut song which went straight to #1, has always been a favorite of mine.
