Trompe l'orange — The art of packaging

Above, a perfume bottle set for Parfums de Marcy, circa 1925, consisting of eight enameled glass bottles as orange segments, set in a painted ceramic holder with the color, shape, and texture of an orange.

Trompe l'oeil perfume packaging was popular in the 20s and 30s, though faux citrus fruit was atypical.

The set, three inches in diameter, was sold at auction in 2004 for $1,410.

Finding an intact 8-bottle set is rare, but separate bottles do appear from time to time on eBay:

The one above

the one above sold there for $16.49 in early 2016.

A pocket-sized black hole that can be carried with you.

The escape velocity of a black hole is faster than the speed of light which basically means that nothing can get away.

The deep purple/black color is challenging to show in photos.

Pretty cool, you're thinking, but not $120 cool.

I hear you.

How about silver?

Can you do silver?

A snip at $82.

Still too much?

You're a tough audience.

For you, there's an iron version.

Cheap at twice the $34 price.
