"I mean what I say in print, as much as if I wrote it."

I like that.

Navigation stick chart of the Marshall Islands

Screen Shot 2019-10-20 at 7.58.47 AM

Above, a Marshall Islands stick chart from the collection of the National Library of Australia, believed to be from the early 1970s.

From the Guardian :

They're thin pieces of coconut wood put together in a sort of lattice like a cat's cradle, and wherever there was an atoll they'd lash on [a] little cowrie shell to represent that island.

The bits of coconut wood represent the routes, the wave patterns, the winds, the currents.

So they're not a geographical representation like a modern map, but more how a navigator might get from one island to another via the sea route in a canoe with a big sail.

The Western world was unaware of the existence of such constructions until 1862.

More on these wonderful maps in this article by Cari ["not Carl"] Romm Nazeer which appeared in the Smithsonian magazine in early 2015.

Screamer Cheese

Screamer Cheese

I spotted this cheese from Switzerland at Whole Foods a few months ago: I have no idea why I only photographed it in situ in the cheese department instead of buying it to try it.

Nor is it clear to me why I'm only now featuring it here.

I had my Crack Research Team®© look for an online store that sells it but they came back with nothing.

If you're curious enough to want to try it you're gonna have to do what I do, which is trek to the nearest Whole Foods and see if they have it.

Since they had it, it would seem that even if they don't currently feature it, they could get it for you.

You know how to ask, don't you?

You just....

Wait a sec — what's that boj post from ten years ago I'm recalling?
