What is it?

Answer here this time tomorrow.

Hint: smaller than a bread box.

Another: 20th century.

A third: man-made.

I'm with Scott -- Fordite. Lapidaries make jewelry with it.

"Fordite" - paint layers built up on auto painting equipment and buildings from decades of spray painting. This is a cross-section.

For what it's worth, I used to live near a GM paint line/assembly plant - legend had it that if you put a fiberglass boat in the river downstream of it, the solvents would eat your fiberglass boat to soggy rags.
