Public Service Announcement: Comments.Are.Broken

Screen Shot 2020-03-22 at 8.40.21 AM

Every now and then I take a moment to mention that my Comments section doesn't work most of the time.

On the other hand, most websites have eliminated comments, so I guess I should take some pride in being in the still-open minority.

I've been trying to post a comment for the past two weeks but all I get is the 404 page up top.

It cannot be fixed: I tried very hard for years, but Typepad insists that it's bad code on my part.

Since I've never touched the code nor has anyone else in the past decade, I don't buy it.

One more thing: about once a month I get an email from an angry reader — usually male — attacking me for censoring his comment(s) by blocking or removing it/them, as if I personally put up the 404 page.

I don't do that: never have, never will.

If comments trash me, so be it: they remain up on the home page just like all the rest that make it through Typepad's eye-of-the-needle winnowing device.

Also, I noticed if I wait for the loading bar to finish -- blue line under the URL on Safari -- I have better success. It is like it is loading some script or external resource that at one point in my life I'd be able to diagnose, but that was a lifetime ago. And it takes 30 to 40 seconds at the shortest.

Not sure what it is doing, but I got in...maybe this won't!
