Temple of Jupiter Anxur

Tempio_di_Giove_Anxur

From Atlas Obscura:

The origins of the Italian town of Terracina are lost to time, as the area was probably inhabited for many centuries even before the Romans conquered it during the fifth century B.C.E.

On the hill overlooking the town, the first known constructions were erected in the 3rd century B.C.E., and perhaps consisting of just a small sanctuary.

In the early first century B.C.E., a monumental complex rose on the hill.

It contained a new, larger temple and a military camp to control the nearby Via Appia, an important road connecting Rome to southern Italy.

The area was surrounded by defensive walls.

The temple is attributed to Jupiter Anxur, with Anxur being both the ancient Volscian name of the town and the name of Jupiter as a youth.

During the Middle Ages the complex was burned down and destroyed and the area abandoned for centuries before becoming a monastery.

New walls and other defensive structures, dated to around the 13th century, suggest that the ruins of the Roman complex were used as a military camp.

The area was again abandoned in the 16th century, but was found and excavated starting in the late 19th century.

Clif Marsiglio is the Winston Churchill of bookofjoe

Aaa

How else to explain the prodigious doings of our man in Indiana?

Yesterday's afternoon email brought photos of his recent Beatles project, featuring a Lego yellow submarine (below).

But no sooner had I registered this magisterial accomplishment than the evening's mail delivered news of his appearance in the New York Times (above and below) as the Indiana primary results rolled in.

His Democratic primary candidacy for Representative of District 100 in the State House went down in flames, as some clown named Johnson took 76% of the vote (top).

WE DEMAND A RECOUNT!

But I digress.

All possible love to Clif as he licks his wounds and decides what to do next.
