Books I've tried to read but failed repeatedly to finish

Zzz

Pictured above, my pantheon, which has resisted all attempts (too numerous to count) over five decades, since my first approach to "Don Quixote" when I was in college in the 1960s.

I will die trying.

Not pictured: "Ulysses" and "Moby-Dick."

Talk about timing: the picture below

led an article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal.

Even the same edition of "War and Peace."

Don't lose faith! I've had this experience with plenty of books as well. Haven't we all? Some I've given up on, but some still draw me back. Anna Karenina was one that I tried and tried to get into. Then, one year I decided to pick it up and just fell in love and gobbled it up. So you just have to go with your gut and wait and hope that the right time and you will come together.

Don Quixote is damned near unreadable. I have tried it in Spanish. The sentence lengths AVERAGE 85 words! Stick to Man of La Mancha, the musical. You'll be much happier.

I saw that article and have yet to complete the books on the left despite listening as audiobooks.

I'm attempting "Infinite Jest" at the moment, it's very different and good. But 55 hours in 14 days is going to be difficult even at 1.75 speed. I borrowed it digitally from the NY library.
