Me + Bluetooth = FAIL (Part 2)

This past Saturday I reported on my TechnoDoltian©® inability to connect an Apple Watch to AirPods so I can listen to music.

Steadfast readers Greg, Luke, Bruce, and Rob weighed in with excellent comments, my favorite being this from Bruce:

He got that right.

Anyhoo, the next day, when the same fiasco of Bluetooth nonconnectivity happened again, I had a thought: why not simplify, the same way I used to do in the OR when a patient suddenly started crashing?

In the OR, that consisted of turning off the ventilator and hand bagging the patient, undoing any changes I'd made in the past several minutes such as installing a PEEP valve, and suchlike.

In my Bluetooth arena, simplification meant turning off my nearby iPhone along with the two Apple watches I wasn't using.

Voilà!

An instant connection that didn't drop out but once during my subsequent five mile run, and was quickly restored by restarting my music.

Less is more.

I should have thought of that! I had 2 pair of headphones that were connected to my iphone. I was cutting the grass and when I was far from the house, everything was fine. If I got close to the house, the bt connection would drop. For whatever reason, the iphone preferred one device over the other and would jump over to the headphones inside! It took me weeks to figure it out!

Glad you worked it out!

Also worth noting is that a reboot of your iPhone once in awhile does wonders for all manners of connectivity. I know, I know, you hardly ever need to restart an iPhone (or iMac or PC) anymore, but it really does help.

I'm sure this is the old PC tech guy in me shining thru, but I also always make sure to allow 3-5 minutes to lapse between when the device powered down and when I bring it back up just to ensure that I've dropped every form of connectivity.
