Camo — Use your iPhone or iPad as a webcam

Last month I got all excited about livestreaming on YouTube and went and bought a Logitech webcam and a stand and hooked everything up to my computer and — to my amazement — succeeded in livestreaming on YouTube for the first time ever.

It was extremely difficult and took a lot of effort because the webcam doesn't have a viewing window, just the camera, so every time I wanted to reposition it, I had to go back and forth between the cam and the computer to see what the camera was recording, which wore me out because I was using a 25-foot-long USB extension cord to connect the movable webcam and the computer.

It occurred to me both then and now that I will never, ever get to 1,000 subscribers to my YouTube channel so I can stream using just my phone instead of having to hook up a complicated setup with cables and a dedicated camera that plugs into my computer.

Yesterday I happened on an app called Camo which enables you to livestream from your iPhone to YouTube: in other words, once you've connected your phone with a cable to your laptop or desktop, you can use your superb phone camera instead of some add-on webcam or the crummy camera built into your computer.

Long story short: since you don't have to buy any gear and the app (in its basic form) is free (the way we like it), you can stream or videoconference with much better quality.

And since you can see what your camera sees on your iPhone screen, there's no need to go back and forth to the computer to see what you're streaming.

It's TechnoDolt©® friendly, too — only took about five false starts till I figured out how to use it.

Try it you'll like it.

Joe! You're 72??
You are looking good in that top photo.
Not at all what I pictured.
