Tone-Deafness Test

In two-and-a-half minutes you'll find out why it is that people flee the room when you start to sing.

Free, the way we like it.

Wait a sec — what's that music I'm hearing?

'Show Me The Monet' — Part 2

Last month's Part 1 featured Banksy's drolly titled 2005 painting (above), a reimagining of Claude Monet's water lilies which added abandoned shopping carts and a traffic cone to the famous garden scene.

Last night it realized $9,800,000 (€7,500,000) at a Sotheby's auction,

exceeding its $3.9 million-$6.5 million estimate.

You could look it up.

Good news good news: fanboi dept.

Above, part of a page of my latest phone bill.

I noticed with pleasure that next month's $45.60 payment for my 2018 iPhone XS Max will be #24 of 24.

The only thing my dad ever said that was worth remembering was "A penny saved is better than a penny earned — because you don't have to work to save a penny."

Just so.

Starting in December, compared to the past two years, I'll be receiving the equivalent of a monthly check for $45.60 (after taxes) forever — assuming, of course, that I don't succumb to the siren song of updating which has already started to play, both on TV and in my email from Apple and AT&T.

Upwards of $10/week for not doing anything?

You know that's playing my tune.

Unlike my past practice of getting the new new thing as soon as it comes out — in this case that would be the 2020 iPhone 12 Pro Max — I'm gonna sit tight for another year and wait for the 13 and get that (assuming it's got some insanely great new bells and whistles).

After all the sturm und drang about the 12, there doesn't seem to this fanboi to be a new killer upgrade or feature that would make it worthwhile to swap.

I hope this doesn't mean I lose my Platinum fanboi card.

Lagniappe: the day burned setting up a new iPhone gets deferred for at least a year.

What is it?

Guess again

Answer here this time tomorrow.

Hint: smaller than a bread box.

Another: free (the way we like it).

3M Platinum Plus Filler — Bondo on Steroids

MAR-01131

Back in the day in high school, having an old beater car to work on in the garage was pretty much routine.

For patching and body fill, you used Bondo (introduced by 3M in 1955).

Turns out 3M has amped up the patching space with this relatively expensive (about twice the price of Bondo) product that, according to some of the many body shop pros who gave it 5-Star reviews on Amazon, is much easier to work with, cures quickly, and sands beautifully.
