What is it?

From reader Michael come the photos above and below.

He wrote:

"What is it? Found this when I was cleaning out my parents' house a few years ago. I have no idea what it is. Maybe for curling ribbon instead of the edge of a scissors??????"

Answer here this time tomorrow.

Hint: smaller than a bread box.

Another: wood.

It looks like it could double as a cocktail muddler.

My kid has one of these.
Yes it's a frog ribbit-sound-maker. I don't know if there's an actual name for it.
I imagine if you had 20 playing concurrently it would sound a lot like a pond or swamp during the summer evening.
You "play it" by scraping the stick across the ridges on its back.

If memory serves me right (and my mum didn't pull my finger 15 years ago) it's a musical instrument of sorts. Sounds somewhat life a frog (who would've thought).
