Just in, an email (above) from my publisher, iUniverse.

After thinking about it for a yoctosecond, I decided it makes more sense to bag my royalties (below)

than take the time to submit all my bank information so I can get an electronic microdeposit.

'Marry or not?' The decision-making process of young (29) Charles Darwin

From Lists of Note: "In July of 1838, six months before wedding Emma Wedgwood, his first cousin, 29-year-old Charles Darwin drew up a list [above] of marriage pros and cons. Indeed, the pros were too great to ignore, and the couple remained married until his death in 1882. They had 10 children."

Transcript below.

This is the Question

Children — (if it Please God) — Constant companion, (& friend in old age) who will feel interested in one, — object to be beloved & played with. — better than a dog anyhow. — Home, & someone to take care of house — Charms of music & female chit-chat. — These things good for one's health. — Forced to visit & receive relations but terrible loss of time. —

W My God, it is intolerable to think of spending one's whole life, like a neuter bee, working, working, & nothing after all. — No, no won't do. — Imagine living all one's day solitarily in smoky dirty London House. — Only picture to yourself a nice soft wife on a sofa with good fire, & books & music perhaps — Compare this vision with the dingy reality of Grt. Marlbro' St.

Not Marry

No children, (no second life), no one to care for one in old age.— What is the use of working 'in' without sympathy from near & dear friends—who are near & dear friends to the old, except relatives

Freedom to go where one liked — choice of Society & little of it. — Conversation of clever men at clubs — Not forced to visit relatives, & to bend in every trifle. — to have the expense & anxiety of children — perhaps quarrelling — Loss of time. — cannot read in the Evenings — fatness & idleness — Anxiety & responsibility — less money for books &c — if many children forced to gain one's bread. — (But then it is very bad for one's health to work too much)

Perhaps my wife won't like London; then the sentence is banishment & degradation into indolent, idle fool —

Marry, Marry, Marry Q.E.D.

30 Best-Looking Beer Cans in America

Screen Shot 2021-06-06 at 8.24.56 AM

From ceros

Last spring, the global pandemic lobbed a viral wrench into everyday life, closing schools and offices, restaurants, bars, and brewery taprooms.

The market for draft beer dried up, leaving breweries scrambling.

Canned four-packs of craft beer — with label artwork as edgy and elegant as the hazy IPAs inside — became brewers' economic life preserver.

America's more than 8,000 craft breweries scrambled to package every pint inside cans, churning out more labels than ever, including a few that spoke to our unprecedented historical moment.

Our fourth year of judging America's best beer can designs also required a rethink.

We sought out nominations from some of our favorite designers and arbiters of label style, resulting in our broadest collection of designs yet.

These are 30 of the best-designed American beer cans of 2021.
