Peruvians re-weave 500-year-old Inca hanging bridge

YouTube caption:

Peruvians from the Huinchiri community in Cusco region are rebuilding a 500-year-old Incan hanging bridge using traditional weaving techniques.

The Q’eswachaka bridge crosses the Apurimac river, connecting communities, but fell into disrepair during the Covid pandemic and collapsed in March.

Now, the bridge is being rebuilt by teams of workers across both sides of the ravine who carefully balance on main ropes while weaving.

'96 Tears' — Encore by The Stranglers

Yesterday's post featuring Question Mark and the Mysterians' iconic 1966 song got reader Rocketboy_X all fired up to the point that he couldn't get to sleep until he emailed me late last night with a link to the fantastic cover up top.

It's from The Stranglers' 1990 album "10".

Rocketboy_X seems to have dialed into the frequency.

I wonder if his real name is Kenneth.

But I digress.

The Stranglers' keyboard player Dave Greenfield died May 3, 2020 after contracting Covid-19 while receiving treatment for a heart ailment.

Greenfield joined the band in 1975, within a year of its formation, and played with them for 45 years until his death at 71.

Hot Pockets Encore

Last Friday, June 18, I featured Hot Pockets here for the first time ever.

Late last night Rocketboy_X sent me comedian Jim Gaffigan's riff on Hot Pockets.

Pretty funny.

YouTube's tips to grow a loyal fanbase

YouTube and I have a kind of folie à deux going on.

For many years I've wanted to livestream from my phone but just when I was ready to go, YouTube moved the goalposts by requiring 1,000 subscribers to unlock this capability.

With bookofjoeTV marooned in 3-figure subscriber land (677), this pretty much quashed my dream.

In the meantime, as if to rub salt in the wound, every month YouTube sends me a newsletter full of "tips to grow a loyal fanbase."

Subscribe here.

Free, the way we like it.

Upside Down Wine Glass

Screen Shot 2021-06-16 at 10.49.11 AM

From the website:

This strange glass is guaranteed to make your dinner guests do a double-take while they rack their brains as to why there isn't wine pouring all over the table.

The usual "top" of the glass is sealed and the "bottom" is open, while the main glass and stem are hollow.

This piece of glassware is a fair bit larger than normal, with room for half a bottle of wine.
