Abandoned & Out of Service Railroad Lines Map

Screen Shot 2021-10-17 at 7.53.45 PM

Long story short: click on any line on the website's map and bring up all manner of facts and details.

Atlas Obscura's story about this map and its creator, Andrew Grigg, is excellent.

From the railroad lines map website:

Here's our map of abandoned and out-of-service railroad lines, where hopefully you can discover some abandoned railroad tracks near you!

It is most accurate in North America, but we are adding new lines across the world almost every day.

Know of some lines we don't have?

Please help us out and Submit a line to the map!

Fair warning: there goes the day.

How to roast chestnuts

I'm so excited!

I just got a bee in my bonnet about how I make bookofjoe.

As a rule, since forever I've created posts in advance, with scheduled future publication.

Once I had as many as 160 (!) future posts lined up, at a time when I was publishing 8x daily rather than today's relatively relaxed pace of 5/day.

Those 20 days worth of posts were to cover a period when I was still passing gas, a two-week stint in Richmond, Virginia during which I would have to take call and use a hotel's internet and not have the luxury of checking and rechecking from mission control here at home.

Like I said, a bee got in just now and I remembered how the legendary Art Buchwald once remarked how easy his life was: he sat down, typed his column in 20 minutes and then did whatever he wanted the rest of the day.

I thought to myself, "What if instead of always lining up a bunch of future posts, I sat down each morning and cranked out only the next day's items?

I'm gonna try it starting tomorrow.

I figure about an hour should do the trick.

Of course, if Typepad's user interface is down, there won't be a cushion of future posts to plug in so boj will be effectively static until things get fixed.

Fair warning.

Wait a sec — what's that music  I'm hearing?

Answer here this time tomorrow.

Hint: smaller than a bread box.

Another: designed in Norway.

A third: no moving parts.
