Why would you give a kid a name that's misspelled half the time?

Yeah, I'm looking at you, Phillip.

Also Jon, Bryan, Shawn, Stephen, Eliot, Julien, and Neal.

Don't forget about Caitlin, Catherine, Hillary, Sara, Alison, and Sofia.

Any others come to mind?

Tamra?

Tracey?

Bueller?

Anyone?

I mean...I misspell my own name according to a lot of people! I don't care if anyone else gets it right or not!

Hah, not just misspelled, but mine is mispronounced half the time. People put in that extra a or an e. Sometimes they think my name is “Camera”. I’ve stopped trying to correct people and just answer to any variation. The people I feel really bad for are the ones named Siobhan.

My given name is Elise. It is constantly misread as Elsie, which I loathe, so I don't use it, except on legal docs and such. I go by Rikki (and that's another story).

When I was in elementary school, so many people misspelled my first name that I figured it must be me who had it wrong...
