Walking Backwards
Hard on the heels of this past Wednesday's "Running Backwards" post comes this much easier variation.
I first started walking backwards when my knee(s) got sore from running, as an experiment: I figured maybe there was some sort of imbalance created by dominance of the muscles that powered forward running.
In my experience it works: what I do is time 1-minute intervals of backwards walking on my treadmill, holding on to the support bars on the side.
I recommend starting at a very slow pace so you feel stable before upping the speed.
You don't need a treadmill, though: just find a place that's level and smooth and free of obstacles and have at it.
Below,
a backwards walk in my backyard.
No need to persist for any fixed duration: just do what you feel like doing.
I figure it can't hurt and more likely than not will help with not only muscle imbalance but also balance in general.
After I finished creating this post I wandered over to YouTube to see if walking backwards was a thing: wow!
