Do Spiders Dream?

[Scientists don't know whether jumping spiders are sleeping or just resting their eyes, but their twitches are similar to R.E.M. sleep in other organisms.]

The headline of Carolyn Wilke's August 8, 2022 New York Times article:

Do Spiders Dream of Eight-Legged Sheep?

More?

The title of the original scientific paper, also published August 8, 2022:

Regularly occurring bouts of retinal movements suggest an REM sleep-like state in jumping spiders

The Times' headline is a sly nod to Philip K. Dick's classic 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

One more thing: it occurred to me that I spend a lot of time and effort republishing long stories and articles from the Times and elsewhere, requiring me not only to copy and paste the contents but also delete the ads, fix spacing and type size, reposition photos and diagrams, and myriad other exertions.

From now on look for more headlines and links and fewer long posts that simply repeat what's already available.

Neil Young gives a lesson in charm

I found his patter and offhand remarks as he prepared to perform "Heart of Gold" absolutely enchanting.
