'The hard way is the best way, not because it is the best way, but because it is the hard way!'

My credo, previously featured here, here, and here, but every so often I like to see it afresh, to remind myself what it's all about.

It's my favorite quote of all time, which electrified me when I first read it in a letter to the editor of the New York Times magazine in 1996.

You could look it up.

Or you could look at the actual letter as it appeared in print (below).

It has repeatedly proved its truth over the decades, most recently when I accidentally happened on a Typepad feature making generating links effortless after having done it the hard, stupid way since I started boj back in 2004 (18 year anniversary on the 24th of this month... but I digress).

How many tens of thousands of times have I said to myself "How could Typepad have made creating a link so difficult?" as I clunkily did what I did, taking four steps to do what I could have done in one in 1/10 the time.

But here's the thing: from now on I get to admire how nice the native link creation feature was all this time, and I get a frisson of pleasure each time I use it.

I needed this reminder.

Btw, i just realised: you started boj the day before my 10th birthday. Depending on the time of day it may even have been on my birthday. I'll celebrate a little extra this year, just for boj.
