I ❤️ Hacker News

Hacker News, where I've been contributing and learning great stuff since I happened on it in 2016 (you could look it up) hatched an Easter egg recently in the form of a super deep dive down into its contributors and related topics by Santiago Basulto, subsequently retweeted by Ricardo Bnffy.

Long story short: I'm among the top 10 contributors this year (below)

2022 subs

and all-time (top) and, more importantly to me, among the highest quality contributors overall (below).

BehindTheMedspeak: Posture makes a huge difference in how fast a pill works

Most interesting and useful Washington Post story short: If you lean to your right while sitting upright, it takes 10 minutes for a pill to dissolve.

Leaning to the left makes it take 100 minutes — a tenfold difference.

Sitting upright in a neutral position, a pill takes 23 minutes to dissolve.

The article is worth reading because its information will immediately improve your life and those of others should you spread the news.

The original scientific paper, "Computational modeling of drug dissolution in the human stomach: Effects of posture and gastroparesis on drug bioavailability," published in the August edition of Physics of Fluids, is here.

Lagniappe: my Crack Mnemonic Team©® came up with "Do it RIGHT!"

Not bad, considering....

First 8K Video of the RMS Titanic

From a September 4, 2022 New York Times story:

New Titanic Footage Heralds Next Stage in Deep-Sea Tourism
New, high-resolution footage of the Titanic offers a glimpse into the ambitions of the deep-sea tourism industry. Tourists paid $250,000 to take a submersible down about 2.4 miles to view the wreckage.
The dives last about eight hours, including the 2.5 hours each way it takes to descend and ascend.
Most people who watch the video [above] on YouTube will not be able to appreciate how detailed the footage is because it is in 8K resolution, which is much higher than the resolution of most televisions and computer screens.
OceanGate Expeditions has now led two expeditions to the site and has one planned for 2023.
Scientists and historians provide context on the trip.
Stockton Rush, president of OceanGate, compared the trips to space tourism.
"For those who think it's expensive, it's a fraction of the cost of going to space."
