'Stoan' ('Ridley Walker')

Read along, listen while you read, or listen without reading — your choice.

"Stoan," on page 163 of Russell Hoban's 1982 classic, "Riddley Walker," is as good an explanation of the nature of the world as I've ever come across.

I reread "Riddley Walker" every decade or so, it's a magnificent novel that will be read for a long, long time.

If you don't agree, let me know and I'll cheerfully refund twice what you paid for your copy.

That was one incredibly difficult book to read.
