Let us now praise Bill Benzon's New Savanna
How is it that I only stumbled across this wonderful blog a couple weeks ago, even though it's been alive and very well since 2010 — and getting livelier by the year!
Consider that Benzon averaged about one post/day when he started out, and that he's steadily upped the activity such that last year an average of 2-3 posts/day appeared.
But wait: there's more!
So far this year he's published 351 posts in 88 days — over 4/day!
He's like a Bizarro World version of me: I started out back in 2004 and quickly revved up to 8 posts daily — about 2,900/year — and over the ensuing 18+ years have gradually decreased my output to 3/day.
Even more astonishing to me is that his posts are more often than not quite long and involved.
His capsule biography:
He's an excellent writer, wry and amusing and full of appreciation for what's strange and wonderful.
Fair warning: there goes the day.

Solar Eclipses in the U.S. in 2023 and 2024
If you're like me you've been losing sleep wondering when the next one's coming.
Not any more.
YouTube caption:
The United States will experience an annular solar eclipse on October 14, 2023 and a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.
See the paths the eclipses will take in this new map from NASA.
Save the dates.

3-in-1 MagSafe Charging Cube
Anker's new device made it into the Apple Store which is a very high bar indeed.
I instantly thought of the black slabs in "2001: A Space Odyssey" on first looking at this device.
Apple's description:
This charger sold out everywhere right after it was released last October but it's finally returned to stores.
$149.95 from Apple (ships in 8-10 weeks).
Much faster delivery (within 2 weeks) from Anker for the same price.
