Why podcasts don't do it for me
I've never listened to a podcast.
I doubt I ever will.
Why is that?
From the get-go podcasts struck me as a completely unappealing way to spend time.
I love to read; I love to watch stuff on TV; I like to watch stuff on my iPad and occasionally on my phone.
But listening to some pre-recorded show?
That just doesn't do it for me.
I've never made a podcast either, BTW, and I doubt I ever will.
Even if I was offered serious money to do so I'd turn it down.
Boring.
I avoid boring and fortunately, late in life, I don't have to do anything I'd rather not do.
Which brings to mind one of my favorite sayings:
"Work is what you're doing when you'd rather be doing something else."
Been there and done way too much of that.

Podcasts can be good or bad. I like the ones that are edited and tell a story. Hello Internet was a good slice of internet culture, and it's spiritual sucessor "The Unmade Podcast" with Brady Harran is fun. It also is an aquired taste.
Heavyweight, now less of a podcast and more of a INSTALL SPOTIFY AND LISTEN, is something I'd 100% see BOJ readers loving.
I used to love Tested by Adam Savage but this dropped off in favor of his youtube videos. It was a science based podcast with a lot of the maker community contributing (Adam was in Myth Busters).
The problem now, most of my favorite podcasts have left, and I now can't find similar ones because it is just too hard. Too much man-o-sphere crap. Too much crap that would have been on AM radio at 2AM with the cranks listening while selling get-large pills and other placebos for idiots.
Joe...I want to do a podcast after my election is over. I want you to be my co-host. I'll up the odds for you since you don't want big money thrown your way -- PAY ME $5 each and every show, and you can be on it. There...I went the other way.

Likewise, there are now so many videos which should have been
a page with a series of pictures with captions.

Podcasts don't do it for me either. One of my pet peeves about them is that they they're difficult to search. A blog post or an article I can visually scan fairly quickly to see if there's something in it I find interesting. Can't do that for a podcast.
But I know they have their place. People enjoy listening to them while driving, exercising, etc. Fair enough.
