Life imitates art: Meret Oppenheim's iconic 1936 fur teacup reincarnated as sheep's milk cheese

Longtime readers with excellent memories may recall that on the morning of Friday, November 8, 2013, I featured a sheep's milk cheese from France that comes wrapped in the wool of the sheep from whose milk it was made (below).

About 45 minutes after that post appeared, it occurred to me that Meret Oppenheim's iconic 1936 sculpture, entitled "Object" (top), uncannily foreshadowed this cheese as presented seventy-seven years later.

The sculpture is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

From Florence Fabricant's November 5, 2013 New York Times Dining Section review: "This cheese from Catalonia comes dressed in sheep's clothing: perfect for the season. Called Llanut, it is made from the milk of rare Ripollesa sheep, and available only in fall and winter."
