I love these things, but not because I trust them to absorb all the loose dye that might bleed from red or black to lighter clothes. I actually use them to test the new red or dark cotton clothes that I've bought. I wash them first with a color catcher or two, in order to see how much dye escapes. I repeat it a time or two until the color catcher isn’t stained dark anymore. Then I know it’s safe to mix those clothes with others. Reds of course are almost always separated, especially natural fibers.
