Mexican Candy Part 2: Aldama and de la Rosa FTW

Constant readers will recall my initial experience with an assortment of Mexican candy last year (below), my first-ever exposure to that country's sweet delights — except for Jarritos' superb sodas.

It's taken a while but finally the results are in: two (2) candies rose above the rest and are now a permanent exhibit in my cupboard.

Up top, the sui generis Aldama wafer, a thin disc of caramel with a coating of dried goat's milk and cow's milk on its surfaces.

Below, de la Rosa Mazapán, a quarter-inch-thick disc of peanut-based marzipan.

Both have an exquisite melt-in-your-mouth characteristic.

Aldama wafers debuted in 1947 and de la Rosa discs in 1942.

Aldama wafers cost $9.05 for 20; de la Rosa Mazapán comes in a package of 12 and costs $7.49.

As always, the unique boj Guarantee©®™ applies: if for any reason you're not completely delighted with either (or both) of these sweet treats, let me know and I will cheerfully refund 5 times what you paid for them.

Yes, you read correctly: to get in step with the times and inflation, the original "3 times what you paid" (actually, it was originally twice what you paid back in 2004) has been retired.

Full disclosure: your refund request will be published here.

Fair warning: there goes the day (maybe more if you get lost).

MInimalist Playing Cards

1

Perfect for your minimalist friend who has nothing... erm, everything.

From the website:

Minim is a deck of regulation playing cards re-imagined by NY-based designer Joe Doucet,

4

who managed to successfully reduce the familiar shapes of hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades to minimal geometric symbols.

3

The requirement to mark the backs of regulation cards has been fulfilled by a single diagonal line instead of traditional ornamental patterns.

$35.
