Mexican Candy Part 2: Aldama and de la Rosa FTW

Constant readers will recall my initial experience with an assortment of Mexican candy last year (below), my first-ever exposure to that country's sweet delights — except for Jarritos' superb sodas.

It's taken a while but finally the results are in: two (2) candies rose above the rest and are now a permanent exhibit in my cupboard.

Up top, the sui generis Aldama wafer, a thin disc of caramel with a coating of dried goat's milk and cow's milk on its surfaces.

Below, de la Rosa Mazapán, a quarter-inch-thick disc of peanut-based marzipan.

Both have an exquisite melt-in-your-mouth characteristic.

Aldama wafers debuted in 1947 and de la Rosa discs in 1942.

Aldama wafers cost $9.05 for 20; de la Rosa Mazapán comes in a package of 12 and costs $7.49.
